Bruce was toasting us at the end of our final recording session at his house. He knew this was going to be a record (We Shall Overcome, The Seeger Sessions, Sony, 2006) but we didn’t know yet. He was elated and if the boss is happy, you’re happy.

One of the things I love about freelancing in NYC is having the opportunity to play a different kind of music every night. Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks are probably the best in the world at playing jazz from the 1920s and early 1930s. Mel Brooks is a huge fan of the band and a lovely guy.
From backstage on the 2006 Springsteen tour. My friend/colleague Soozie Tyrell made vintage-looking prints of all of us. The tour was magical.

I was a huge fan of The Jazz Passengers in college so being a member of the band since 2002 has been a dream. Being a born and bred New Yorker, being pictured in a New Yorker Magazine cartoon is a special thrill and a musician’s rite of passage.
